 Founded in 2013 in Carolina Beach, NC, Island Montessori Charter School (IMS) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Middle School Lead Teacher with a passion for guiding students in English Language Arts and History.
The ideal candidate will foster students’ academic, emotional, and social growth within a prepared Montessori environment that challenges each learner to reach their fullest potential. The Lead Teacher embraces the Montessori philosophy and upholds the school’s mission, vision, and core values in all aspects of their work.

Preferred Qualifications

Montessori certification from an accredited organization (such as AMS, AMI, or MACTE)

Secondary Education background

Three or more years of classroom teaching experience


Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree

NC State Teaching License (or eligible to obtain one)

Commitment to enrolling in an accredited Montessori teacher certification program (if not already certified)

Experience working with children in a classroom setting

Ability to create a positive, nurturing, and student-centered learning environment

Professional demeanor, communication, and appearance

High ethical standards, including discretion and professionalism

Key Responsibilities: 

Create and maintain a prepared Montessori learning environment that encourages independence, exploration, and a love of learning.

Plan and deliver engaging, integrated lessons that align with Montessori philosophy and North Carolina state standards.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all students.

Observe, assess, and document student growth, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.

Collaborate closely with the Assistant Teacher to ensure consistent support and communication for all students.

Work collaboratively with fellow Lead Teachers and specialists to design projects, support school-wide initiatives, and ensure a cohesive student experience across grade levels.

Communicate regularly and effectively with families, fostering strong partnerships that support student development.

Contribute to the overall growth and success of IMS, including participating in committees, school events, professional development, and community engagement opportunities.

Engage in ongoing professional learning, including Montessori philosophy, culturally responsive practices, and innovative instructional methods.

Model the school’s core values of respect, responsibility, compassion, and curiosity in interactions with students, colleagues, and families.

Uphold and support school-wide expectations and routines, contributing to a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment.
