Charter school boards only meet a handful of times each year—but those meetings are where nearly all governance happens. That’s why making them effective, efficient, and strategic is essential. This module focuses on how your board can get the most out of its time together and comply with important public meeting laws. Participants will learn how to structure agendas around the board’s true responsibilities, prepare strategically for each meeting, and understand the key requirements of the Open Meetings Act (OMA). We’ll also explore how to best utilize board committees to do the in-depth work of governance and help meetings run more smoothly.

• Tips for board chairs and members to lead efficient meetings

Presenter:  Mike Mizzoni

Mike is the Chief Governance Officer at BoardOnTrack and has worked with hundreds of charter school boards nationwide.  Specifically, Mike has partnered with NC charter boards for over 8 years.  In his work, Mike combines his experience as a practicing attorney with his time working and serving on boards to provide energetic and insightful sessions on charter board governance.
